You would do everything you would do normally - wear gloves, and maybe request that you don't do anything that puts you in contact with body fluids - maybe ask to be transferred and do some administration work during your pregnancy so you're not coming in contact with soiled sheets, or giving showers, changing bed pans, or handling body fluid samples or taking swabs. If you are able to desk work for the duration of the pregnancy, you should be able to avoid all those nasty things that you come in contact with during your regular duties. Wear gloves, protective gowns, and a face mask if you are forced to do these things, but if you are high risk I would recommend getting transferred to a desk job or simply taking a very long maternity leave. If you get sick, stay home until you are 100% better - not just feeling better. Make sure any cuts you get at home or work are clean and covered before you go to work. You need to think of you baby's health, not your job - so do what you have to do. If your employer is understanding, they should be able to get you into administrations if you have to keep working during your pregnancy. Good luck and congratulations!

some ppl think because ur preggo u can use that as a handicap but dont try to let them use that against you, just becareful

You definitely should ask your doctor for an answer to this question, and also ask if you are able to get a flu shot at this point in your pregnancy. Of course, universal precautions are an ABSOLUTE MUST!!! Wash those hands like crazy and make sure you wear a mask when dealing with any contagious patients!!

Consult your Dr or OB and get their advice.... Certain diseases/infections effect pregnancies during different trimesters so just ask a professional.

This is a great question for your personal doctor and your human resources persons. You should be able to find the right person at your employment location to advise on this. They don't want you to get sick there, so ask this question there!

Try not to lift so much though because some of those patients can be really heavy if you can tell them to give u a lighter assignment and to stay away from diseases try to be careful wear gloves, wash ur hands and if a pt is on precaution make sure you use all the proper techniques before u go in their rooms but other than that u'll be fine. Good luck on the baby.
